Experiencing tia
⚙️ Experience Setup

⚙️ Experience Setup

Once you've configured your knowledge sources (see Training tia), you can organize your knowledge sources into different experiences. Experiences allow you to create tailored AI interactions by combining specific knowledge sources with preferred communication channels.

For example, if you have a knowledge source containing private pricing information, you can expose that information in a private "Internal" experience that is connected in your team's Slack, while keeping it separate from your "External" experience which could be embedded in your documentation or product.

Out of the box, tia comes with one experience configured for you based on the PDF or URL you added during registration.

Setting up a new experience

To set up a new experience, navigate to Experiences and click "New Experience". You'll be asked to give the experience a name - this is up to you to help you differentiate between experiences. For example, you could name one experience "External", which you would embed on your site or docs, and another experience "Internal", which you would connect to Slack.

Optionally, you can configure some additional settings which are outlined in the Experience Settings > Personality section of our documentation.

On the next step, you'll select your knowledge source(s) to apply to this experience. If you're setting up an externally-facing experience (e.g. embedded in your product), you'll want to select publicly available knowledge sources only. For an internal experience, feel free to choose between public and private data. You'll want to select at least one "Immediate Answers" knowledge source in order for tia to be able to provide immediate answers to your questions.

1-on-1 trainer

The 1-on-1 trainer allows you to:

  • Ensure your experience is configured correctly when you are initially setting it up.
  • Continually ask questions & receive answers in realtime, without the need to set up an external connection. This is a great place to use tia just for yourself.

When first setting up your experience, you'll be presented with a few steps to complete: Ask 5 questions, Invite your team, and Connect. You'll see a breakdown of those below.

Ask 5 questions

Asking questions is a great way to ensure your experience is configured correctly. Generally, you should see some suggested questions already based on the "Immediate Answers" knowledge source(s) that you've configured. If you don't see any suggested questions, or they're not quite right, re-visit Adding Knowledge Sources to help troubleshoot, as you may need to adjust your knowledge source(s). You can also ensure the correct knowledge source(s) are attached to this experience on the "Knowledge Sources" tab.

Invite your team to a shareable demo

If you would like to share your experience with your team, you can click the "Send a shareable demo" button on the 1-on-1 trainer tab. This demo URL will allow you and your team to interact with your configured experience, allowing you to demonstrate the value of tia without needing to install it somewhere you work, like Slack. Note this link does not require login.

Connections

The connections tab is where you can extend tia to your working environments. There's a lot to cover here, head over to Add tia to where you work to learn more.

Knowledge Sources

You can curate which knowledge source(s) apply to this experience on the "Knowledge Sources" tab. Simply check the knowledge source(s) that you would like enabled on the experience. This allows you to use different knowledge sources across different experiences. For example, you can have an experience configured with your support documentation, and another configured with your API docs for more technical users. Note at least one "Immediate Answers" knowledge source needs to be selected in order to provide real time answers.

Settings > Personality

The personality tab allows you to configure the underlying 'brain', tone, language, and 'creativity dial' of your experience.

Adjust the brain used to generate responses: When you embed this experience on your site or docs, you can adjust the AI Model ("brain") used to generate responses, allowing you to optimize for speed, accuracy, or cost. This option is not available for the individual user plans. Current models available are: GPT-4, GPT-4o, and GPT-4o Mini.

Adjust the tone, language, and behavior: This allows you to customize the 'personality' of this experience, ensuring that it provides accurate, helpful answers that match your brand and tone.

Add AI Disclaimer: This allows you to add an optional AI Disclaimer to tia, which promotes transparency and sets appropriate user expectations. It provides legal protection and demonstrates ethical AI use. Additionally, it educates users about AI's role in their learning experience, fostering trust and understanding.

After making changes in this area, be sure to hit 'update' to ensure your changes are saved. After saving, you'll be able to test out your changes with the preview on the right.

Settings > Welcome Screen

The welcome screen is the first thing users will see in a few scenarios:

At the top of this tab there's a simplified WYSIWYG ('what you see is what you get') editor that will allow you to introduce tia to your users. Feel free to change the text here and head to the Welcome Links section below.

We've set up a few default Welcome Links for you which you can choose to remove if you like. Here's a breakdown of all the different types of Welcome Links available to you:

ℹ️ AI Prompt and AI Document only work in a few scenarios: when embedded into your product, site, or documentation, and when using a browser extension that has authorized the extension to read the site's data. This is because these features rely on reading the page the user is on to make AI-driven predictions.

  • AI Prompt: This is an auto-generated question relevant to the page the user is on. For example, if your application has a "Reporting" page, and the user opens the embed while on this page, they'll automatically see an AI generated question related to reporting, based on an indexed support article related to reporting. For example, the prompt may ask "How do I favorite reports?" if you have favoriting functionality. The user can then click on this to get an immediate answer, without having to type out the question themselves.
  • AI Document: Similar to the AI Prompt, this is a link to an indexed support article relevant to the page the user is on. They will be able to click on the link to view inline documentation without having to leave the page. For example, the document title may read "Favoriting Reports", and clicking on it would lead to the user being able to read the support article on how to favorite reports, all inline without leaving the page.
  • Document: Instead of AI choosing a document automatically based on the page the user is on, you can instead promote a document you select manually. This can be good for new feature releases or anything else you would like to highlight.
  • Prompt: Similar to 'Document', instead of AI choosing a prompt automatically based on the page the user is on, you can instead add a question that the user can click on to get an answer. For example, if you just released a new "Events Manager" and created/imported support article(s) related to it, you could fill this in with "What is the new Events Manager?" The user could then click on that question to receive an immediate answer.
  • Link: If you want to link out to an external source, such as a status page, community forum, etc., you can use this to do so. Simply enter the URL and the link text. When embedded in your product or docs, Both relative URLs (like /community-redirect) and absolute URLs (like https://google.com/) with work.
  • Separator: A simple horizontal line which allows you to group different prompts/documents/links together.

Settings > Theme

Alongside the Welcome Screen, the Theme tab allows you to customize the appearance of tia to match your brand. If you would like to add a logo, you can upload it here. Additionally, you can choose a primary and secondary color. We recommend choosing a color that will blend in with your application or match your brand. You can also choose a border radius, which changes the overall 'roundness' of the embed and elements like text fields and buttons. Finally, you can choose between light and dark mode, which will only apply if you are embedding tia in your website or docs.
